A Different Type of Financial Plan

We need a fresh, better approach to money. Why? Because 99% of people don’t live for wealth.  Most of us have our eye on far loftier goals—we want vibrant health, purpose, connection and better life experiences. Those goals, in turn, make us feel secure, content and happy. It’s not just you, everyone on the planet universally wants and needs some version of security, contentment and joy. Money is simply a tool to help you achieve those feelings on the grandest scale possible—whatever that means to you.

So why do most financial professionals focus on metrics like net worth, retirement savings and debt-to-income ratio? Well, to be blunt, that’s simply how Big Finance operates; it’s transactional and sales oriented. But from the perspective of a Dad who just wants Saturdays off from his retail job to watch his daughter play soccer, those are pretty meaningless numbers. He’s just wishing he had the education (purpose) to get a professional job (better life experience) that would free up his weekends to be with his family (connection). If you asked Dad how he would feel to have the weekends off, he probably would say “happy”. From my perspective, Dad—and just about everyone else—needs a different type of financial plan, a plan that is centered on positive feelings, personal goals and what matters most in life. That’s what Plan for Joy does!

Let’s Create Your Financial Plan

The method of crafting your Financial Plan starts with the foundation of you. What are your hopes, dreams and debt all about? I want and need to know, and this discovery process comprises the About You meeting. About You is also a time for you to ask me questions, and get to know how I’ll work for and with you. If you decide Plan for Joy’s approach is your ticket to financial joy, then let’s start your Financial Plan. First, you’ll enter your personal financial information into an easy-to-understand, securely-encrypted data program. After that, I start crunching the numbers. I find the gaps between what you told me makes you happy and how you’re really spending your dough. In our next meeting, we go over your money data, nail down some concrete financial goals, and I teach you the MoneyJoy System. (You can view My Pledge here.)

You’ll be relieved to find out how easy the MoneyJoy System is, and all your dreaded worries about budgeting, debt and the fear of never drinking another $5 latte soon fade away. Next up, I share a couple of money plan scenarios for us to talk about. Typically, we have to make some tradeoffs in your financial goals, but don’t worry, your outlook is still rosy—it’s more about which fork in the road we take based on your outlook for getting to the life you love.

Finally, your actionable steps and financial plan are condensed into something you can easily understand. Of course, I also give you all the bells and whistles of a comprehensive plan, including prudent advice on how your finances stack up against the industry’s “best financial practices”. In our very last meeting, I educate you on how to implement your plan. And yes, you’re right, you will have questions after you start down the road of implementation, but I’ve got your back; simply email or talk with me in detail over the next two months using the two additional 20-minute calls included as part of your Financial Plan.

Want to keep a good thing going?

Sure, that’s no problem. Let’s keep empowering you with better money skills and a trustworthy ear to talk money-stuff with. At month three, our 20-minute calls can continue with my subscription service called Money Date. Yup, it’s just you, me and your money on the phone. I’ll send you an email in advance of each call with a suggested topic based on your plan’s implementation, but ultimately, you’re in charge and the discussion topic is your choice. That way, if an unexpected life event comes up, we can strategize on how to keep you moving forward positively.
